Alternative Belfast Walking Tour

Discover a Belfast You Won’t Find in any Guidebooks

Step beyond the familiar landmarks and uncover a city shaped by rebels, visionaries, and cultural trailblazers. This unique walking tour brings to life the untold stories of Belfast’s radical past and vibrant modern identity.

Walk in the footsteps of pioneers like Henry Joy McCracken and Mary Ann McCracken, whose fight for equality and justice helped define a new political vision. Hear how Frederick Douglass found inspiration here during his powerful 19th-century visit, and discover why Belfast stood apart in its opposition to slavery.

Continue the journey with revolutionaries such as Winifred Carney—a fierce advocate for workers’ rights and women’s equality—whose story reveals a city alive with progressive ideas.

Then fast-forward to the late 20th century, where a new wave of resistance took shape. Explore Belfast’s raw and electrifying punk scene, and uncover the rise of its LGBTQ+ community—voices that challenged convention and redefined identity through music, activism, and culture.

This is more than a tour—it’s a story of defiance, creativity, and transformation.
A Belfast that questioned, resisted, and reimagined itself.

The experience begins at Belfast City Hall and ends at the oldest bar in town White’s Tavern in Winecellar Entry.
